Olympic Broadcasting Disaster

Big business rules the Cliposhpere right now and no matter where you live the Internet leads to very lean pickings if you want to see anything "Olympic".

No matter that you can't see what you want to watch in the traditional media, new media is failing all over the place as old school interest groups carve up a big fat five ring pie.

Videos are being taken down as fast as they are posted however what possible damage we ask could follow if the world were able to see the majestic performance, and less than ten seconds, it took Bolt to cover 100m in the Birds Nest stadium.

The paper thin American pool victory over the French or the performances of possibly the greatest medal winner of all time....

We couldn't all be there and some of us were not able to get to a TV or missed those short moments ... and now can we see them at all or perhaps we never will ... not on youtube yet that's for sure.

Any advertising driven youtube clip of the 100m would have seen millions of views that would have been paid for by any advertiser - that was probably worth as much as a Superbowl advert slot to some .. yet people still just don't understand the Cliposphere ... not yet ...

The IOC had a great chance to via the Internet let the whole world see the greatest athletes on the planet perform and for us all to enjoy the massive effort and spectacle Beijing and the Chinese nation has put on (and make a few bucks along the way) .... yet broadcasters have flat failed.

The opening ceremony was being shown to and for the world and a yet huge sector of the world couldn't even see it on their computers ... is that the "Olympic spirit" or bringing the world together?

The powers that control the rights have done almost as badly as Tyson Gay of the USA did in failing to reach the final of the 100 meters ... relaxing and not paying attention to what his competition was doing ... theres always a price to pay for that.

Thanks to the video clip blackout we can't easily see that failure either in the Cliposphere; something he's probably very happy about.
