Tay Zonday "cherry time"
Tay Zonday came out of nowhere on April 22nd 2007 coining a song name based on his searches on Google and bursting into the cliposphere with his smash Chocolate Rain.
Combining his unique and outsize voice in a young frame he hit the internet hard with an even more unique set of repetitive yet catchy lyrics and a melody that was as annoying as it was haunting.
After turning up on a few talk shows he had cemented his place in the world of clip legends : the original clip now having reached over 12.5 million views in just 8 months.
Unlike many "one clip wonders" by November 29th Zonday had hooked up with Dr. Pepper and was flogging soda with his dulcet tones.
In late September he was talking about what "that chocolate rain guy" might be selling .... so now at close to 2 million pairs of internet eyeballs in under a month on Youtube alone (that's close to a 3000 views/hr average) we know.
What he may be selling next is hard to say but Tay Zonday has gone from an unknown yet clever guy with a sheet behind him and a mike in front to a known talent with backing singers, dancers and a commercial video in the cliposphere.
"is it possible to monetize Youtube?" he was asked "i think the jury is still out on that one" he said on Sept. 28; whilst only 60,000 people were interested in hearing what he had to say in his Q&A part 1 ... by the time it came to part 2 of his Q&A about half appeared to have tuned out or been turned off. Even in the cliposphere it's the creative output that viewers want; explaining how you did it is apparently much less interesting right now in this case.
